RMIT SurfRiders Club competes in various
events throughout the year. Competitions usually include Mens & Womens
standup shortboard, Tag-team, Longboard, Boogyboard (Combined Mens &
Womens usually), and kneeboarding.
To be eligable to compete for RMIT, you obviously have to attend RMIT. Also as of the begining of 1998, you must belong to the Surfriders Club to compete in university surfing comps. If you only want to compete, a $10 membership fee will allow you to join and compete only. All competition fees are paid for by RMIT or the Surfriders Club, and transportation is subsidised by RMIT to help you get to those out of the way places (like Queensland). If you are interested, please E-Mail us on zrsr@minyos.its.rmit.edu.au or call a club contact and we'll fill you in on the goss. |

SUSA: Warnambool - May 30th/June 1st -:
Intervarsity: Held in Maroochydore, Queensland over the 12-15th December weekend. Final Competition details are still to be released (come on fellas!!!) Unofficial results put RMIT in 12th place out of 20 Universities from all over Australia. The Surfriders had 3 entrants competiting in Open Women's and Open Men's Shortboard and Longboard. Dim and Ben did well in the Women's & Men's Shortboard. Frank got into the Semi-finals despite breaking his mal 5 minutes before the end of the second heat. Considering we only had 3 entrants, we did really well. |

RMIT vs. Melbourne: Our first competition of the year was hosted by Melbourne Uni in the “Hypothermia Classic” held on August 19-20. It was us against them with really poor conditions on the Saturday. Four-man heats of twenty minutes saw Sam Murray, Andrew Petch, Rob Davies and Daniel progress through the heats for RMIT. The finals, postponed to the Sunday in the hope of improved conditions, saw Rob and Daniel against two blokes from Melbourne in clean, 3-4 ft waves at Jan Juc. Rob came through with the goods and claimed first place, with Daniel taking third. |
