the ruined splendor of Pagan

As far as the eye could see, in every direction, the ruins of crumbling stupas dotted the landscape. I packed six oranges and set about to explore this wondrous valley in the fierce dry heat of a Burmese summer.
The air was thick with a haze that softened shadows with blue and purple and made the structures appear as though they had always been an eternal part of the landscape.
