'TerraTranseo'
is a collaborative team-based project using a 3D multiplayer real-time computer game editor created by postgraduate coursework students studying within the MCM Animation & Interactive Media program, School of Creative Media.

As a thematic statement for the project, students were asked to consider the topical questions around notions of borders, thresholds, security, sovereignty, and territories which lie at the intersection of many current social, cultural and political issues. What do borders exclude and include? How do borders alter our perception and behaviour of others? What constitutes a border?

Borders delineate edges and boundaries. We have territorial borders – imaginary ‘lines’ that define nations, states and countries from one another. Geographic, borders (rivers, mountains etc) have some kind of physical presence that define spaces and places. Built, architectural ‘borders’ such as walls and fences also define limits and boundaries.

Although the term "border" is physical in origin, borders are not only physical. A border demarcation may be metaphorical, conceptual, ideological or symbolic.
