Club equipment borrowing
The club has 12 fully maintained sets of SCUBA equipment that members can borrow. Tanks, Regulators and Buoyancy Control Devices (BCDs) can be borrowed by members if the equipment is available.
Due to the new budget situation of all university affiliated clubs in 2007, we will most likely require members to pay a contribution of up to $5 for borrowing equipment. This is to cover for regular maintenance of the gear. However, this will be decided upon during the next meeting. Members must pay a $20 deposit when borrowing equipment. The deposit will be returned once the equipment is returned clean and the tanks filled. The club policy is that all equipment is borrowed for a period of 3 days only unless otherwise organised by the equipment officer.
Equipment borrowing can be arranged by contacting the equipment officer Michael Wagerman (Bentleigh, Ph: 0433 687 186), or Craig Newcombe (Collingwood, email: craignwcmbe@yahoo.co.uk), who also store a few sets of gear. Suitable pickup and return times will be arranged.
Tank borrowing & air-fills procedure
Members must ensure club tanks are filled on return. Please ensure the tank fill is reputable dive shop. Any member returning a tank unfilled will forfeit their deposit.
All equipment must be used in accordance with Club Operating Policy and damage & failure must be reported immediately to Equipment officers.
Dive Booking Procedure
If you want to dive with the club on Sundays, the procedure is:
- Follow the club mailing list, dive trips will be announced there, including detailed instructions
- The usual process for boat dives is this:
- Contact Graham Adams by Thursday to book a place on the boat
- Make sure you have all your gear (i.e. arrange borrowing from the club if needed)
- Leave a contact number so that you can be contacted
- Also, arrange for transportation to and from the boat launching place (usually Sorrento), if you don't have a car, best contact other club members who go on that dive.
- Cost: The minimum charge for diving is $30 a day, which is your contribution to the fuel, boat, equipment and running maintenance costs. Longer and multiple trips that use more fuel could cost more but this will be calculated on the day. Generally, this will be kept to no more than $30 unless exceptional circumstances arise.
- And please: when arranging gear and transport, try to contact people directly and abstain from using the mailing list as this causes lots of emails to others who probably don't want to be bothered ;)
