For 37 years the Australian Universities Water Ski Championships has been a premier event on the national water ski calendar. This year in Mildura the tournament promises new extremes of talent on the water, with a number of Australia’s top international competitors striving for victory. Top jumpers soar almost 60 metres through the air; slalom skiers fly across the wake at 100 kph; wakeboarders and trick skiers pull off huge flips and twists behind the latest, hottest ski boats.

For the first time in 2001, wakeboarding has been included as an official sport at the Australian Universities Championships. After enjoying enormous success as a demonstration sport over the past two years, wakeboarding’s official status at this year’s event promises to attract all of the top university competitors throughout the nation.

The 2001 event at Mildura is set to be the biggest university water ski and wakeboard tournament ever, with competitors travelling from Victoria, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia and Queensland. Over 70 skiers will battle for placings in slalom, tricks, jump and wakeboarding during the course of the three?day tournament.
